The year 2020 introduced ambiguity and uncertainty in the lives of people all over the world. Not just that, but businesses also faced major setbacks, which resulted in the economic downfall of countries. Various industries and sectors were affected globally because of the pandemic.
Among those highly affected businesses, the aviation industry was one as well. As compared to the statistics for January 6, 2020, the number of scheduled flights worldwide went down by 43.5% on January 4, 2021. This downward curve was the lowest on February 17, 2020, at around 70.8%.
Charter Jets and the Pandemic
The aviation market had a lot to lose through the coronavirus outbreak with bans on international travel, but there was another activity planned on the progress for these jets. Throughout the pandemic and now as well when countries and gradually lifting bans, charter jets have proved to be of utmost importance. There were various reasons why globally, these were the priority for tending off to both urgent and recreational needs. Speed, high efficiency, and lower risk of spread of the virus were some major reasons.
In these dire times, people and countries all over the world needed to get quick access to supplies to tackle the virus head-on. Even though the demand for passengers decreased, chartered jets were there to respond to calls for transporting essential supplies.
While previously passenger flights were responsible for the heavy lifting regarding air cargo transportation, with these on hold during the pandemic, it was time for them to shine. The UN solidarity flight from Addis Abba was one of the first ones as COVID-19 medical supplies were provided to African nations. With commercial flights banned, this was the most efficient method to provide aid to health workers and patients worldwide.
The transportation of masks, gloves, face shields, goggles, medical aprons, gowns, thermometers, and even ventilators was carried through these jets. This timely distribution of supplies through planes proved to be majorly helpful and helped save uncountable lives globally.
While the purpose of transportation and air cargo movement was carried out during the pandemic, in current days, with the pandemic gradually slowing, people are looking to get away from the depressing and stagnant days by getting themselves vacations. Traveling on a commercial flight during the pandemic with passengers placed closely together can be an open invitation for the virus.
Delays and Universities
To avoid this risk, people are instead opting to book private jets. Not only for vacations but also organizations and individuals are inclining more towards these for finding a short-term solution to the delays at airports. Foreign universities have also started chartering private jets to provide transportation for international students. This is done to ensure a steady flow of income.
All of this is a clear indication of how the aviation industry, even while facing losses, has managed to solve problems for people all over the world in such a horrible time.
